Some people like candy, some people like coffee, I like Pepsi!
There’s nothing like sitting down with a cold Pepsi, some Doritos, and treatment planning a complex dental case!
When someone enters my office and their needs are very complex, I have to prepare for some “one-on-one time” with them outside of the dental chair. In this situation, a comprehensive examination with diagnostic work-up is necessary.
My comprehensive exams with diagnostic work-ups are pretty detailed. This review of photographs, X-rays, and 3D imaging helps me to assess things that I could not see at the exam. It allows me to catch something that I may have overlooked at the exam. I study casts of your mouth which is put on a fancy instrument that reproduces how you function. No rock gets left unturned!
All of the records plus the complete periodontal exam, comprehensive tooth exam, and bite analysis aid in developing the best treatment options. Most importantly, the medical history, dental history, and medications are studied for their effects on oral health. Once everything is looked at, I can present an in depth review to you during a formal case presentation with advantages and disadvantages. It is here you can definitely make an informed decision about how you would like your smile, designed for life!
Not all cases are complex and require a diagnostic work up. Usually the following are cases that require a comprehensive exam with diagnostic work-up: interdisciplinary treatment—more than one specialist involved, severe teeth wear cases, complex dental implant cases, some smile makeovers, and full mouth reconstructions.
Just remember, even though I may set aside some “One-on-One” time, I don’t share my Pepsi – maybe….the Doritos!
